Tom earned his Leatherworking Merit Badge on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout. After a 37-year career as an executive director for the Boy Scouts of America, Tom and his wife, Karen, retired to Dahlonega, GA. Tom has been crafting bags and pouches since 1985. Leather I and II – Ages 13 and up  - Tom Slavicek
Learn the basic techniques of cutting and stitching leather bags and pouches and get even better, plus learn how to use a wood-burning tool to add artwork onto the leather, and how to add color to your designs.  There are several styles, shapes and sizes of bags that you will be able to choose from, along with colors and textures of leather. You can also make phone cases, a backpack, journals, guitar straps, passport wallets, men's wallets, ladies' wallets, and more. There will be time enough to make up to 4 to 6 or more projects, depending on complexity. All tools, leather and materials, straps and tassels, decorations and templates are provided for the class. You do not need to bring anything except your enthusiasm and be ready to amaze yourself at what you create!

MOUNTAIN MEN & LADIES - Tom Slavicek
It's not just guy stuff! Yes, be ready to make frontiersman-type bags, pouches, knife sheaths, etc. but also make any other types of bags just like in Leather 1 and 2. Learn how to use a wood burning tool to add designs to your projects and add color. Dozens of templates to choose from. I'll have exotic leathers on hand, like American Bison and Water Buffalo, along with numerous textures and colors of the standard leathers. You'll have time to make up to 4 or more pieces depending on complexity. All tools and materials are provided, plus straps, tassels, decorations, etc. Bring your enthusiasm and be amazed at what you will make for yourself and in time for Christmas!
