Leather I - Renee Kelley
This class is to familiarize students with various techniques of leatherworking. I will be going over tool information and how to apply your designs to leather to be used in carving and stamping. In addition, you will learn leather dying, stitching and how to apply these techniques to get the look you want for each individual project. LEATHER CARVING is the art of cutting a design into your leather and then beveling and texturizing your cuts so that you have a 3-dimensional look to your finished dyed piece. LEATHER STAMPING is one of the most common ways of adding a design to leather using different stamping tools to create on bracelets, belts and wallets. Class projects include such projects as a coaster, key ring, bracelets, pendant, earrings, a carved art piece for practice and end with a leather carved journal. These techniques can also be adapted to what projects the class would like to do. (The small projects prepare you to work with the tools and dying.) There will be additional tools, kits and supplies for purchase. My lab fee covers all materials for planned projects, use of tools, dyes, and equipment. Intricate designs, as well as how and what tools work together will be covered. Bring: Optivisor (or borrow one from school). You are welcome to bring your own leather tools if you like.

Lab Fee: $185.00
Estimated Materials Cost: $0+
