COVID 19 UPDATE 4/3/2020

We hope this message comes to everyone in good health and safely at home. We would first like to thank all of the essential workers, providing medical care, food, medicine and essential items to keep us all safe during this time. On behalf of the William Holland Staff and Board Members we want to say that we really miss our student right now but everyone has been so understanding and generouswe are forever GRATEFUL! Please remember our main concern is to keep our students safe and healthy.

We would like to announce the following updated changes to our 2020 schedule:

All May classes have been canceled. All students signed up for May will be receiving an email from Corie our Registrar as to what you would like to do with your deposit.

All Junior Rockhound Classes have been canceled for the entire 2020 season. This decision was based on recommendations from our State, CDC and Federal guidelines.

We have put a hold on additional students registering for June, July and August classes. You may put your name on the waitlist for a class for these months and as we know more regarding the status of these classes, we will move students from the waitlist into the class if there is room.

Limited Staff Currently we are on a very limited staff and ask students to use email as their main means of communication info@lapidaryschool.org
If you do not have access to email please leave ONE message on the phone voicemail and Kristine will return your call as soon as possible, please remember she is the only office staff at the school during this time and it may take a few days for her to return calls. Emails will be the fastest mode currently.

We would like to thank everyone who has generously donated to us during this time, any amount makes a huge difference. We have provided a link to our DONATE button on our facebook page or you can go to the Home page on our website and scroll down to the yellow donate button at the very bottom of the page.

We hope and pray everyone is safe and healthy, please remember to practice social distancing, if we all do our part maybe we can get through this crisis soon and return to classes!

COVID-19 UPDATE:

3/24/20

The health of our students and instructors are our main priority at this time...the board and I today have decided to postpone the opening of our 2020 season. As things are changing from day to day we have officially canceled all of our April classes including our volunteer week. We will be meeting again on April 15th to evaluate a May 3rd start date.

Anyone signed up for an April class will be given priority to move into another class for the next ten days, if the class is already full you will go to the top of the waitlist. At this time deposits will be handled in three ways...first deposit will be moved to a new class, deposit can be changed to a donation to the school or third can be placed on hold through the 2021 season. Due to the magnitude of this crisis we cannot issue refund checks. Please we urge students to signup online for their new class and do not pay a new deposit, once signed up we will move deposit over to the new class. If you have questions we ask that you use our email (info@lapidaryschool.org) as our registrar will be working from home for her health safety. If you need assistance please call the main phone number (706) 379- 2126 and leave ONE message, it may take us a bit to respond but we will get to all messages.

Our Condolences go out to the family and friends of Bobbie Brown. Anyone lucky enough to take one of Bobbie's Wire classes knew what a talented lady she was, and just so kind! I was one of her students several years ago and remember the experience fondly...she will be missed!

The William Holland staff and Board Members would like to update all of our instructors and students regarding the Covid-19 situation. As of now, we will be opening on April 12th, which is our planned 2020 schedule. Please keep in mind this is a very fluid situation and it is changing by the hour. To help keep calls to a minimum, we will frequently be posting updates to our new Facebook page: (https://www.facebook.com/William-Holland-School-of-Lapidary-Arts-100635884893809) and website. We also request that you email (info@lapidaryschool.org) questions instead of calling, as we are on a very tight staff at this time.

William Holland Lapidary School of Arts places the health, safety, and well-being of all staff, instructors, and students above all else. We have been following the Covid-19 situation very closely, receiving updates and procedural advice from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH). Each department has released guidelines restricting the number of individuals who can meet in a group, and due to this, we will be cancelling our annual volunteer work week. No worries, there will be plenty of work for next year, you wont be missing out!
During this time, staff will be following our adopted plan of protection and prevention. This includes: deep cleaning of the campus and facilities, best practice safety procedures recommended per the CDC, and lots of hand-sanitizer and hand washing! There will be hand-sanitizer and Lysol wipes in each classroom, and at different stations throughout the school. We have also put plans in place to have smaller seating groups at all meals, and to offer sack lunches. As the situation advances, there may be other protocols and procedures that we will need to follow.

A final decision about Covid-19 and its impact on the Schools opening date will be made no later than April 1st in consideration for students signed up for April classes. We ask that if any students or instructors show signs of sickness before their arrival, please stay home. You will not be penalized, the entire deposit amount, even if called the day before, will be honored. We cannot stress this enough, please take steps to not only protect yourself, but our William Holland family as well.

We understand that our students are our first priority, however, cancellations will be handled in one of two ways to see that the school remains financially stable during this national emergency. In the next 90 days if you cancel we ask that you respond to the following choices of payment: you can use your deposit as a donation to the school, or your deposit will be placed on hold, and we are extending that an additional year so you may use it through 2021.

Again, keep an eye out for changes and updates on our website and Facebook page. You can also make donations on our website to help keep us financially stable during this difficult time. All donations are much appreciated.

2020 CLASS ENROLLMENT HAS STARTED...

We would like to give a big welcome to Katie and Corie Pressley...they joined our team this week, Corie is our new Registrar and Katie is our Marketing Specialist. Both ladies graduated from Young Harris College with marketing degrees, they are super sweet and full of energy! They are excited for school to start and get to know everyone...this is going to be a GREAT year!

Our deepest condolences to the Sparks family for the loss of their brother Richard Sparks. Please join us in sending healing thoughts and prayers to the entire family especially his wife Nicky as they face this unexpected loss.


After over 30 years we would like to congratulate Suzanne Wagner, CEO of William Holland Retreat, Inc., on her retirement. We would like to thank her for keeping this wonderful school viable and prosperous as well as keeping the family legacy alive for all to enjoy. We hope to see her visiting us regularly.

We would also like to congratulate and welcome our new Director, Kristine Robertson. She has been a familiar face around William Holland for the last 10 years as a student and serving as the Director of the Southeastern Federation Week at William Holland for the last 3 years. Kristine has an extensive background in Marketing and Management and we are excited to have her join the William Holland team...let's give her a big welcome!
